Article: Protect our shores from erosion
(1) JL recently asked if any of us in S5 had gone to changi beach lately and he mentioned that the beach had huge concrete walls slapped up, totally aesthetically un-appealing move on the part of NParks. Yes, build the sea-wall but make it nice too! We don’t have that many recreational zones like that in Singapore!
(2) NEA no-smoking aones wef 1 Jan 2009 states that smoking is banned in parks and exercise areas but there are still many people who smoke in parks everywhere! I asked a few people, friends, colleagues and strangers I reminded of this law.
Their “logic”: “When you have to smoke, you just lit up. Heck care the law. Why control people’s freedom?”
So socially irresponsible!
It’s not that they are not informed. That’s the advert all the time on TV! plus all the signs. They just can’t be bothered. And many of the people I saw infringing this law are youngsters some more.
Eg. PR fish pond area. The fishing-addicted uncles are not always the offender. Most of the offenders are youngsters in their 20s.
I have seen WS staff/people who work at WS smoke at the loading-unloading area as well. Sometimes, they even smoke under the no-smoking posters, and the security did not stop them.
I hope they get all the (now not broadly advertised because of the whims of some idiotic parents who prefer to wrap their children in cotton & turning said children into idiotic self-centred nincompoops) ailments and cancers shown on the photos on the cigarette packets and suffer for it!
